Don’t buy new clothes just yet. Research shows that you start re-gaining weight as soon as you stop dieting. But, maintaining weight loss is not a losing battle if you are cognizant of a few facts.
Neither Weight Loss Nor Maintenance Is Easy
If you think losing weight is hard, keeping it off is just as difficult, if not more so. Worse, scientists are not really sure why. One study followed about 70 overweight adults who completed a 12-week weight management program. The participants lost an average of about 1 pound a week. But, weight regain started almost immediately after the weight intervention ended.
Another Study Held More Hints
The U.S. government conducted a more extensive study. In this test, a number of people found that they could maintain their weight loss if they made corresponding behavioral changes. The people who sustained loss weighed themselves daily to catch regains early.
More Physical Fitness Needed
Physical activity is also a crucial component in maintaining weight maintenance. However, some people need to workout more than what the current U.S. guidelines recommend. In fact, some experts believe it takes about 5 hours of physical activity a week to maintain weight management.
